The Cairngorm Reindeer Centre

The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd is Britain's only herd of reindeer, found free ranging in the Cairngorm mountains in Scotland. These extremely tame and friendly animals are a joy to all who come and see them.

There are currently around 130 reindeer, approximately 50 of them ranging the Cairngorm Mountains and the remainder on the Glenlivet Estate; the locations being some 30 miles apart.

There is a daily visit to the reindeer, weather permitting, departing from the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre at 11.00 am. There is an additional visit at 2.30 pm during the Summer months. (UPDATE - NEW FOR 2008 We might be doing a 3rd visit in July and August at 3.30pm, Monday to Friday (Not weekends), During the Winter months, the visit may be dependent on whether we can find them. We said they're free-ranging and we mean't it !

Under the supervision of our trained guides, our visitors can feed and stroke the reindeer. They are not camera shy, so you'll be able to take some memorable snaps. One thing that the odd one or two reindeer are not keen on is mobile phones. Anyone who really has to bring one with them (something we don't encourage) may get more attention if it rings than most people feel able to tolerate. You can't say you weren't warned.
