The farmhouse of Inverchor was burnt down in March 1970 and lay derelict for the next thirty years. Four walls still stood as trees, shrubs and undergrowth grew up around them. From year to year the remnants of an old garden could still be seen : roses, rhubarb and raspberries protruding each spring. There was still a harvest despite the lack of attention. The only inhabitants of the house were crows and barn owls who used the chimneys as nest sites. For years we passed the house by, never giving it another thought. It was the ruins of Inverchor and it looked as though it might stay like that forever. Set in an extremely remote spot on our farm, there were always plenty of other things to do and the future of Inverchor was never considered. |
